Your options at a glance
Choose based on how serious the problem is:
- Life-threatening emergency: call 112 immediately
- Need a doctor today but can stay in the hotel: a hotel doctor visit
- Need imaging, surgery or overnight care: a hospital, usually after a doctor's referral
- Minor complaint and advice: a pharmacy for over-the-counter products
Public and private hospitals
Private hospitals in Istanbul usually have international patient departments and English-speaking staff, but waiting times and costs vary. Public hospitals provide emergency care but can be busy and mainly work in Turkish.
Pharmacies in Turkey
Pharmacies (eczane) are easy to find and a duty pharmacy (nöbetçi eczane) is open every night in each district. Many medicines that need a prescription at home also need one in Turkey, so a doctor's examination comes first.
Making your insurance claim easy
Keep every invoice and medical report, note the date and time of treatment and contact your insurer's assistance line as early as possible. Our visits always come with an itemised invoice and an English medical report.
